Dry Season  (November – April)

It’s an obvious answer: the dry season is the go-to time for any island. There will be no rain, heavy wind, or thunderstorms that might cancel your plans.

The sun shines bright during this period, allowing you to get a nice tropical island life by the beach. However, it’s not unbearable to live there. You will easily get adjusted to that climate in no time.

Experiences During The Dry Season in Phu Quoc

The dry season, with its bright sun, is the best time to savour Vietnamese iced coffee, ice cream, and a walk amidst the cool breeze of the thriving Vietnam nightlife. So if you are blank on things to do, I have listed a few for you-

Relax at the Beach

Phu Quoc has many beaches, but you should know which beach to stay on. You can book your hotels near any of the beaches to wake up and go for a swim. The best part about any of the beaches is that they will give you either a soothing sunrise or a stunning sunset.

You don’t even need a plan; you can just sit, have a cute picnic with your friends, kids, or your partner, and just watch the waves and sunbathe.

Few beaches in Phu Quoc to consider-

  • Long Beach
  • Ong Lang Beach
  • Sao Beach
  • Khem Beach
  • Cua Can Beach
  • Ganh Dau Beach
  • Rach Vem Beach
  • Vung Bau Beach
VinWonders

When it’s hot, is this the best place anyone would want to go? Remember when we were kids? Summer was the only time we went to theme parks, and it was a happy ritual in any family.

VinWonders

In Asia, VinWonders is ranked at the top with its six theme structures-

  • European Avenue
  • Fantasy World
  • Mysterious Viking Villa
  • Typhoon World
  • Adventure World
  • The Seashells

You don’t even have to worry about it. When you go in, you won’t know what time it is, and you probably won’t bother to look at your mobile phone.

The cherry on top is that you can end the day by watching the Water fountain show at 7:00 pm.

Aquatopia Water Park

You think this is just another theme park-like experience, but it is located in the south of Phu Quoc. This Aquatopia is so much different from the Vinwonder. There is much experience when you go there.

  • The Water park is known for its 20 different slides and games.
  • Watch the Kiss The Stars performance.

Cost: All this costs you approximately 2,300 INR per person.

Night Market

What’s a better time for the cool breeze? It is only nighttime during the dry season. Just take a walk in the streets and enjoy ice cream and desserts to cool yourself down. It will taste like heaven after all the water activities and roaming around.

Not just desserts, you can enjoy authentic Vietnamese street food and pick up souvenirs for your friends and family.

Best Night Markets in Phu Quoc-
  • Doung Dong Night Market
  • Vui Fest Bazaar in Sunset Town
Island Hopping

There are various platforms offering you different types of Island hopping. Some included three and some four islands. And having an understanding travel agent who plans your trip according to your taste is more essential than randomly scheduling a trip.

To hop all these islands, the dry season is the best time to visit Phu Quoc. With no rain and heavy wind, your trip can go smoothly. For instance, the following points are to give you an idea of what island hopping looks like-

  • Speedboat transfers
  • Kim Quy Island for snorkelling
  • Stop at May Rut Ngoai Island for lunch, swimming and sunbathing
  • To snorkel to see different coral reefs, feed the fish, and also see multiple kinds of fish
  • Halt at Fingernail Island to do a small picnic, have fresh fruit snacks, and admire the view.
  • Finish the day with yummy food at a premier restaurant.

Note: There are many island-hopping packages. To learn about the available trips, you can contact Dimaak Tours for more information.

Traditional Boat Racing Festival

This festival happens on Dinh Cau Beach. As this takes place during the peak tourist season on April 30, it is enjoyed most by locals, as well as domestic and international tourists.

This is organised and ritually followed to encourage the physical abilities and the town’s sportsmanship.

The place where the event takes place is full of joy. The boats are artfully decorated, and flags fly from every corner. For locals, it’s an eagerly awaited time to buy new clothes and watch the race. You should be there, just feel the energy and the cultural eco of the people.

Cost During Dry Season

Vietnam is basically an affordable destination, especially for Indians. There are no other disadvantages in this season, even a person who dislikes the summer will like it in Phu Quoc. So it directly falls under the seasonal time in Phu Quoc.

Moreover, November to April is an excellent time for a vacation for working professionals and kids. There are so many long weekends, festival holidays, and school and college breaks that come at this time.

Yes, you can imagine – just like in the movies – you can really have a filmy beach holiday here, and see people from all over the world.

Though it is affordable, the cost will be on the higher side, given that there will be a larger crowd.

Tips for the Dry Season
  • Book your favourite accommodations months in advance.
  • Check different platforms for cheaper flight costs and book ahead
  • Dress in Cotton Clothes to bear the heat
  • Must-Takes: a hat, a water bottle, sunscreen, and coolers

Wet Season (May – October)

Vietnam is known for its unpredictable weather, especially in the wet season. That is from May to October. But let’s not overthink that.

There are also various tourist activities available in both seasons: the dry and wet seasons. But it’s not very convenient to try them all during a thunderstorm and a rainstorm.

If you like the sunshine or someone who gets easily annoyed when plans don’t go as planned, then please avoid visiting Phu Quoc at this time.

However, this is the right season for those who like a chill climate, enjoy quiet village life, and prefer a non-touristy experience.

Experiences to Try in The Wet Season in Phu Quoc

Like I said, you can experience all the activities in both seasons. But when it rains out of nowhere, you can not snorkel, do island hopping, or walk around the market with so much joy. One thing is for sure: you will get drenched and your shoes will be splashed with mud.

It’s all in luck. So instead, you can consider trying out the following activities-

Phu Quoc Prison

It is located in the Cay Dua Village and was built by the French coloniser. You can visit the prison to see the sacrifice of the Vietnamese soldiers for the freedom of Vietnam. If you go there, you have to be ready to look at the sad and dark history of the prisoners.

You can see sculptures of people in the cage, conquerors torturing them in different methods, and how they tried to escape while still enduring all the pain.

Note: Entry to the prison is free; you just need to carry a strong will to see the pain and leave with a heavy heart.

Cafe Hopping

Vietnam is known for its coffee culture. And not trying the best coffee from the world’s second-largest coffee-producing country is a regretful thing.

On a day when it rains, instead of sitting at your accommodations, you can visit cafes to try varieties of coffees, read books, or even work sitting there.

Also, in any country you visit, the cafes are so different. Some are pretty, some are aesthetically pleasing, and some are beyond words, but they’re perfect for you to visit and spend quality time.

Best cafes you can go to in Phu Quoc-

Nghinh Ong Festival

Going to a country shouldn’t be just about doing common things. If you’re a solo traveller or part of a group that enjoys deep travel, you probably already know this: it’s all about experiencing the essence of authentic culture and getting to know the locals. If you are one, you must attend this festival.

Nghinh Ong Festival
Nghinh Ong Festival

This is a grand water festival on Phu Quoc (Pearl Island). This festival is conducted to worship the Sea God and show gratitude for guarding the fishermen.

If you have been part of the festival, you can go during the lunar month, which usually occurs at the end of January or the beginning of February. The locals organise various water and land activities, including boat races, games, sports, music performances, and trade fairs.

Farming in Phu Quoc

Farming places are best if you are seeking unique and less crowded places. And the famous farming you can do here is-

  • Pearl farming
  • Pepper farming

There are a few farming areas in Phu Quoc that also offer engaging indoor experiences. So, when you’re not sure about the weather for another full-day activity, you can easily choose these experiences.

Cost During Wet Season

Any international destination has two different costs: High and low sides. From May to October, you can get things for much cheaper than during the dry season.

The reason is that it’s an off-season, so not many tourists prefer to come, and there are also not many major school or festival holidays during this time.

The accommodations, food, and even the flights will be lower when compared to the peak season. If you’re someone who likes to visit a country and stay for more than a month to explore, you can choose Vietnam.

But you must plan accordingly to experience both the quiet life and the touristy moments of the island on a budget.

Tips for the Wet Season
  • Carry medicine for cold and fever.
  • Sweaters, jackets, and raincoats are a must.
  • Always check the weather before heading out.
  • Quick-drying clothes.
  • A quality waterproof bag for essential things and a pouch for your phone.

Conclusion

There is no bad time to visit a country; it’s just a matter of personal preference for when you go. For some, the dry season is the best time to visit Phu Quoc. But some like the quiet and cold climate, and that is the wet season.

You just need to figure out what kind of activities you want to do and think about which season you’d like to do them in: do you like walking in the streets, even when it’s always drizzling, or on a sunny day? Or do you want to spend your beach time in the dark clouds or when the sky is in its perfect blue?

Whenever you want to go, Dimaak Tours is always by your side. We’ve got you covered in any season. You don’t have to worry about where to go or what activity to do.

The team will do a customisable Vietnam trip or any international trip destination after understanding what meets your preferences.
